2009-2010 Stimulus Requirements for Window Performance
The 2009 Stimulus made immense changes in the Replacement WIndow and Door Industry, but they mean you can have $1500 towards your window or door purchase from the Federal Government.
Standards of performance for all types of windows went up by 25% in order to qualify for the current tax rebate and tax credit available from the government.. Standards for U-Value are at under .30 and for Solar Heat Gain Co-effecient the standard is now under .30. Previous Energy Star Ratings were at .40 or lower. We have products at reasonable costs with SHGC numbers of .21.
Environmental Protection Agency establishes new practices for Lead Paint Abatement in Replacement Window and Door Replacement.
Also, Effective April 22, 2010 all professional remodelers and window and door replacement contractors will be required by the EPA to use "lead safe practices" for all replacement window and door installation procedures. This will increase costs for any project you may be considering. In the future we will be required to plastic off sections of the home inside and out, use hepa filter vacuum tools, jumpsuits, resipirators, gloves and booties, etc. All contractors will incur additional expenses due to the additional labor and materials.
